I have a TC Hawken .50 cal. I built from a kit in 1979. I have killed many deer with black powder (about 120 grains and a round ball with patch. I shot one buck at 80 yards and it went right thru his rib cage, with blood gushing out both sides. He ran about 50 yards. I love using that gun and am proud of the job I did on it. A lot of work goes into making one of those purdy!
Mrs. Couyon gave me a .50 cal. Encore about 7-8 years ago and i have killed several with it. I use that red sabot in the pic above with 2 pellets. Killed a doe at daylight Saturday at 75 yds with it

Im going to use the ole patch and ball on friday. I dont have enough experience to determine which is better(sabot vs ball) Ive shot at one doe with the round ball and killed her.
Will see what she does friday. Longest shot with open sights i will have will be around 50 yds.
