There was no mulligan. They qualified fairly for the national title. Stop living in the past like a Gump.

Bama qualified based on an "eyeball test" that was never applied to any team prior or since in the BCS.

Based on an eyeball test, Ohio state plays Michigan again in 2006, and Uga or USC replaces LSU in 2007.

They didn't even win their division of the SEC, that should've ended their argument right there. Okie State won their conference.

Gotta agree it's fun to know how much the non SEC fans hate the SEC chant as was demonstrated in this video

I will pull for whatever team plays bama. F the SEC. I'll support the SEC when they at least attempt to make the schedules even.

Seriously. I guess we don't have to call it the mulligan, we can just refer to it as the "second game of the century between the same teams in the same season played bc LSU didn't win the first one convincingly enough and OK State is not a brand name".

No. I've always been SEC loyal, but until the conference pulls its collective head out of Bama's arse, I'm done with the conference bullshite.

Not no, but hell no.

If Bama were playing the fighting Bin Ladens, I'd strongly consider a turban.

ETA: Of course I kid. Happy Veterans Day!

Obviously a lot of votes are based solely on that eyeball test, and I'm sure we agree that that is inherently lamentable. Alabama and Oklahoma State were ranked very closely together in the computers, with OSU having a slight edge. I know that none of the computers are allowed to use margin of victory, but if they were, the fact that Alabama scored more than four times the points that they allowed in 2011 and OSU scored less than twice their opponents' combined total, Alabama would have been a solid #2 in the computers. There is plenty of mathematical support for either an Alabama selection or an Oklahoma State selection regardless of eyeball tests, and neither selection would have been unfair or unjust.

Florida and Michigan were tied in the computers. Florida got more votes (ie eyeball test results).

In 2007 Virginia Tech was #1 in the computers, but Ohio State was a unanimous #1 and the voters voted LSU ahead of VT largely because of a 41-pt victory in September. What many don't realize is that USC or UGA had computer rankings so low that they would not have qualified for the national title game even if every single voter voted them #2.
