Yes it was definitely a legit penalty but the pass would have been complete if he hadn't so it really didn't matter... which just baffles me why he was benched after th PI call.

all players are equal, but some are more equal than others.

quote:You sure? I know after the Copeland fumble I specifically watched Miles go to the assistant coach (black dude) and demonstratively tell him something. I assumed then and now that he said to put Copeland on the bench permanently. His replacement Neighbors was miserably inept. I could have picked up blitzes better than him, literally anyone of us could have done a better job.
Chavis decides who plays on defense.

Mills had a rough game, but to be fair...On the long TD he was passing the TE off to Martin in zone coverage and Martin was just caught flat footed and got burnt.

Robinson, right or wrong, is the 3rd CB. He plays when we are in nickel and that's all.
I'm fairly certain this is incorrect... he's been the outside corner since he started playing regularly either at the Auburn game or right after.
ETA: and he's the best corner on the field.

False. Watch any game you'd like. It's Mills and White in base. Robinson, Mills, White in nickel. The 6th DB keeps changing and we don't play it much, but that was Dwayne Thomas this game. It had been Eugene mostly.

Robinson had a hand full of the receiver's jersey for more than just a nanosecond; we'd have screamed for PI if the roles were reversed.
Like when OBJr got tackled in the endzo....oh wait.

Robinson only plays CB in nickel. Base is White and Mills. When we go to nickel, Mills goes to slot and White and Robinson are outside.

Not sure if you all read my last post before the BAMA game. But I got word that he hurt is ankle bad and was not going to play. So Robinson was out there doing good on a badly hurt ankle. So that shows you the heart that kid has.

classic Miles. He treats different players differently.
If you are one of "The Chosen", you are given chance after chance. No matter how badly you screw up, you won't be benched and you won't lose your spot. If you take plays off, consistently play poorly, make poor off-field decisions, make stupid penalties, don't know the playbook, play out of position, ect, it doesn't matter. You will still start and play the majority of snaps.
If you are not one of "The Chosen", one mistake, and you will be replaced, often with no chance to redeem yourself. It is a poor coaching method that breeds great loyalty among "The Chosen", but breeds poor play, consistent flat performances (Playing "down" to the opposition), poor motivation by non-chosen because they know they have zero opportunities, "non-chosen" players leaving early for the draft, and watching your team fall behind while the best player at a position, that was owning the opponent the entire time he was in the game, sits on the bench for no reason for the rest of the game or even season (See Jerrett Lee).
It's one of the 3 big things that I don't like about Les Miles as a coach ("The Chosen" concept applies to the coaching staff as well). The other is situational offensive play calling, and clock management.

JC Copeland agrees with your post.
I think MIles has lost his mind when it comes to disciplining players for mistakes often ones which are forced. I could understand it if the team was stacked three deep at every key position but, it isn't.

I ain't defending Copeland. Remember, his stupid penalty last year against Bama + several other bone head plays by Mr. Copeland have really hurt us. Sure, he is a beast of a blocker but he doesn't really think very well. Miles definitely talked to Wilson after the fumble and that was it. I suspect they scripted the play and probably told JC to make sure he didn't fumble. The dumber move was why not run #33 right off tackle. I guarantee you we score. We were gashing Bama at the time...

Copeland shouldn't have been benched either for a fumble.

did Miles SIT him for the rest of the game??!!??
no, robinson only plays in man/nickel situations right now, Bama did nothing but run the ball in the second half...

quote:And then people wonder why team morale goes into the shitter after the Bama loss every year. Other than 2011 the team chemistry has been horrible and morale low for the last 4 games. You could argue that even in 2011 when Miles let back the LSU GOAT QB JJ on the team in the middle of a championship run that it ruined morale as well.
this has been a problem under Miles for a while. Random enforcement of rules depending on the player.
Miles is 5 for 5 since 2008 for fricking up the team.

No, just no. I've seen the wide shot of that play, it was Mills fault. We were playing man defense across the board. Mills was in lala land and played zone, Martin was in man just like everyone but mills.

Benching a full back for the whole game for fumbling.
That's got to be a new one.

I tend to think les might have a touch of some mental deficiency. He's completely abysmal on Saturdays. High school coaches can manage a game better than he can between his clock management and personnel decisions.
