St. Louis Recommendations

I'm traveling to St. Louis for a conference this month. I'll be staying "in the heart of downtown." Any recommendations for me to try out? I'll be traveling with some colleagues but will Saturday afternoon/night to myself and would like to treat myself to a nice meal.
I don't plan to rent a car.

Ruth's Chris downtown is subpar.
Ae few other joints, can't really remember names.
Lombardos for Italian was really good.

Inquire at the hotel as to the (Oops) Central West end district which is accessible by the metro or taxi ride, it is small but dense in numbers of good options to choose from. It is a popular location with the locals in an area to the western edge of the city proper. You will have a few recommended spots from the hotel peeps to try. I am brain farting the name of the chef(French guy) that is a bit noted in cooking lore on the national level(tv shows) with his record and he has a place down by the river walking distance from most of the hotels. The Hill district for Italian is to the south of it by about a mile or two, that is in relation to the CWE area of town, not downtown. My bad.

Thanks everyone! I'll look at these online a little more and make some choices. Appreciate the help!

Like another poster mentioned, PI pizza is great. I would definitely recommend going there.

Ted Drew's for frozen custard is a must.
