quote:

"A dry martini," [Bond] said. "One. In a deep champagne goblet."
"Oui, monsieur."

"Just a moment. Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?" "Certainly, monsieur." The barman seemed pleased with the idea. "Gosh, that's certainly a drink," said Leiter.

Rely on the fictional character bond, if you must, but he's drinking a vesper, not a martini. Social mores of the cocktail world MUST be obeyed or the world will descend into chaos. A martini is made with gin. Period. Call your vodka drinks and neon candy apple flavored drinks martinis if you must, but just realize that you're contributing to the downfall of western civilization in the process.

Mr Bond was not fictional at all in fact. He was the real life neighbor of the novelist who created the Bond novels. He was an ornithologist and the name was chosen out of the ease of making up the character. The success of the Bond novels was based in the fact that the author had himself been a spy behind enemy lines with the French underground as was(drum roll) Julia Child. Don't play trivial pursuit with me you might get cut a few times.

Martini is made with gin. People can argue it all they want but they are completely wrong.
