Cut the chunk out of a junkyard 44 and weld it to a regular trailer axle

I'm thinking the gears in that thing will be more than able to handle a good many miles

i've got a 44 but it's a front axle narrowed for jeep/scout and matches my 14 bolt C&C. i guess i could just use it and remove the tubes and axles and weld in pipe and hub and bearing assy's

Doesn't work like that. Can't put a 14 bolt differential into a 10 bolt housing. You'd basically have to weld up a new housing to fit the 44 in there. If a 44 is a must have, it needs to be a 44 axle.

I'd take the gears out of a broken 44 and run a solid axleshaft all of the way through with d44 hubs so it wouldn't drag

if you left the shafts in the axle you could swap them out when you snap one
and then what do you mount your trailer tire to when you take out the axle/hub?

Eta: unless you have a full floating rear D44
