In the Miles era I only recall one year where the TE was utilized and that was with Richard Dickson in national title year. LSU has the # 1 receiving tight end in the state last year and he doesn't see the field. Mett throws into double coverage three times against Ole Miss costing potential scoring drives. Mett never made it through his progressions against Fla with a wide open TE streaking down the field. I understand the TE will never be the first or second target on the route tree but with double coverage over the top someone had to have been open on the three picks sat night.
Defensive line has gone from the big space eaters to lean and quick to counteract spread attacks. You still have to be able to slow the run and LSU has sacrificed defensive line size and that has had a big impact on this defense. Tenn was the same way under Chavis when they had John Henderson and Haynesworth and then all of a sudden they downsized as well and Tenn struggled to stop or slow teams down.
