The origins of all SEC fervor.

When you don't have much going on - you put all your passion and angst in one basket.

You can't compare living/playing CFB in Los Angeles, Seattle, San Diego or the Bay Area.

The idea that the only reason college football is great in the South is because there is nothing else to do is such a lame idea. Just because the people there are passionate about something doesn't mean that that is all they have. Sports fans all over the country have sports and teams that they are obsessed with but for some reason the only people that have to apologize for their passion is college football fans from the South.

The only reason NY and Boston fans are the most passionate about their teams is because there's nothing to do in those cities.

You see?

ETA - And Austin, Madison, and Ann Arbor are notoriously terrible college towns, right?

Yeah you never hear this argument in college basketball. For years some of the best college basketball, and it's most rabid fans were in the Big East. But Alas, there's nothing else for those poor people in the northeast to do, so they cling to their college basketball.
