You can take the onshore route and load railcars and tank trucks starting off. This option will allow you to go home every night. SGS/PSC does this at many plants. I have a college degree and couldn't find a job and took this route. Within one year I moved from loading railcars and tank trucks to monitoring the Top of Dock(marine outside operations) at the same plant. Within two years of starting I was hired on with the plant. Knowing someone will help you get your foot in the door but its up to you on how fast and much you want to move up. Hard work and a willingness to ask questions and learn will go a long ways.
