I'm not the guy. It's confusing as shite to me. I just wait for people to tell me what to do and mainly defend.

OK, the rounds are Wed and Sat 9AM to 9PM. The top 3000 guilds are split into 10 groups of 300 based on guild rank. You only torch battle with other guilds in your group. Every guild in your group starts with the same number of torches, and the max torches is double the starting number. So, the guilds in our group started with 50 out of a max of 100 torches. Higher ranked groups have more, and the number of torches held at the end of the round determines the payout.

Stealing a torch from another guild is called "hauling". To haul a torch, you just choose a random guild in the list (they are all listed as ???, no guild names), click the haul button and choose a hero to haul with. Then a timer starts, and the length of the timer depends on your hero's move speed. This is just basically the amount of time the guild you're hauling from has to try to defend it. When someone is trying to steal from you, their timer will show up on the guard screen. To guard, just click the button and choose a hero to guard with, and your guy will fight his guy 1 on 1. If you guard successfully, your guild keeps the torch. If you fail, you can try again with a different hero, or just let him go. Once the timer runs out, he has stolen a torch.

The first eleven and a half hours of torch battles seems pretty pointless, because during the round as you steal torches you move up in the list of guilds within your group. If you get into the top 10, you show up on the first page of results, so EVERYBODY will start trying to steal your torches. It's better to just wait it out, steal a few torches during the round and just hang around page 4 or 5, then steal everything you can in the last 20 minutes.

I guess that's a decent primer on torch battles.
