Not a joke, but a story that illustrates just how STARK it is in Starkville.
In 1981 (I think) LSU was undefeated and ranked 3rd in the country late in the season. For the first time in years, LSU played MSU in Starkville instead of Jackson. It was an afternoon game and the biggest game actually played in Starkville in decades.
I and a large group of LSU students went to the game and had made arrangements to stay overnight.
In a wild game, MSU beat LSU. IIRC the final score was 52-50 and MSU won on a last second 52 yard field goal (incidentally kicked by a guy from Belaire High in BR that the Tigers chose not to recruit.)
Anyway, the MSU crowd went absolutely crazy partying, celebrating etc.
Although we were dissappointed, my friends and I stayed the night. At about 9:00 that night we decided to go get something to eat. In the entire town, the only place that we could find was a Pizza Hut. However, it had already closed. I dont think there was anyplace else open to eat. They literally "rolled up the sidewalks" at about 8:30 even on the biggest football game night of the year.
