247Sports Rating: 75 ** 247Sports Position Ranking: 16

Last Week: Gamble only handles kickoffs and his Flower Mound squad fell to Sachse, 55-16.
This Week: Flower Mound (1-3) hosts Plano West on Friday at 7:30 PM CT.
I'm very confused about this offer. I wouldn't mind one bit had we offer someone in high school who actually does the field goal kicking

We have a two time all state kicker and he was at the LSU kicking camp last summer. He said that Gamble is an absolute freak show. He won every competition and our kid came in 2nd.

It's easy to make kicks when there's no rush and you take 3 full steps to kick the ball.

Its even easier to make snarky comments on an innerweb message board where you get to pretend you know more than a professional football coaching staff that has won at a rate that is phenomenal......no?

Just asking
So you think this scholarship is worth giving to him IYO?

I know exactly what I'm talking about. He's purely a kickoff guy and I would bet on that. He cannot kick field goals with that approach. Is there anything wrong to give a scholarship to a kickoff guy like they did with Hairston? No. I've even said that I would agree with greyshirting Gamble as strictly a kickoff guy. I bet LSU isn't planning on using Gamble to kick field goals unless he drastically changes his approach, which hopefully would be through coaching. As of right now, Gamble is a kickoff guy only, that's not a snarky comment, that's an evaluation of a recruit and most likely in line with LSU's staff opinion. Having an automatic touchback guy can be a huge asset to a team.

And if I'm wrong in my evaluation, then why doesn't he kick field goals for his high school team? Is his high school coach taking mercy on opponents by not having his stud kicker kicking field goals? No, it's that he's a huge risk to get kicks blocked. Take a look at this field goal in a scrimmage. This is his only field goal highlight in his entire Hudl LINK (August 23 vs McKinney Boyd)
He almost gets the kick blocked from the outside. That is absolutely unforgivable in major college football.
There is a difference between ripping a kid without merit and making a fair evaluation of his kicking. He's a kickoff guy right now only for LSU. Maybe he will kick field goals in a few years time, but he's not starting at kicker as a true freshman.
And just because I don't get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars doesn't mean I can't have an understanding of football. Do I know 10 percent of what any of LSU's coaches know? Absolutely not, but I have some common sense. He's not not kicking field goals in high school just because the coach feels like screwing the kid.

He was very impressive at camp. Kicking it 5 yards out the endzone almost every time.

Thank God we dont offer everyone who has a great camp!! It must have been something else the coaches saw his previous year of high school. Just doing good at camp shouldnt get you an automatic offer.

Camp shows a lot more then film. He's gonna be our kickoff guy and our 50+ fg kicker. We don't have that this year

One scholarship out of 85. I'm fairly certain this perceived questionable scholarahip offer won't make or break the team's future success.

don't underestimate film. Film shows a lot. Tendencies and how a person reacts and plays in pads. anybody can be a stud in shorts and a helmet. Maybe for a kicker a camp evaluation is good enough; but other positions require more

It's a process. Film, camp, sign. Or just film and sign if bamas already offered

It's not about that it's about 1 out of 25. We will probably pass on Kenny Young for a kick off specialist.

Missing out on Kenny young??? Well we're taking a long snapper for 15, are we missing out on an Alfred blue?

That had nothing to do with my question.
