Why do you want a crossbow over a compound bow?

I have my son a Barnett crossbow that he is on the money out to about 45 yards. Though I dont plan to let him shoot past 30. Works great for a kid that is learning as aiming fundamentals are the same as a rifle. For me, I much prefer my compound bow. Feels like a little more of a challenge and more of a reward when I kill. Just my two cents.

Go shoot at a deer with a cheapo crossbow and watch the deer duck it, then we'll see who the fricking idiot is.

I dont understand this thinking. Twenty years ago when I started bowhunting I shot a PSE with an overdraw that we thought was blazing fast at 285 feet per second. I killed at least ten deer with that bow. Even the cheapest crossbow on the market now is shooting at least 300 ft/sec.

Its not speed you have to worry about, its the noise. I've filmed hunts and watched deer duck the arrow out of a loud arse crossbow. Does it happen regularly, I don't know. I'm just saying they're loud.

Even the high dollar crossguns are louder than most of your compound bows.

Or just know how to shoot and aim a bit lower because you know they will hear it and drop.
