If you think Hatcher was as good as Welter you're nuts

Welter is an average SEC LB. If we'd recruited more evenly he would be a backup for us. I think he will be second string by the end of the year, but his pass coverage will keep him in the rotation. These posters who think Welter is terrible are morons.

Be honest everyone. Welters play this season has been horrible. The last game he played much better.

did you see the TCU game? His pass coverage may be worse than his run support.

First Welter has the unenviable position of replacing Minter, that in itself is virtually impossible as Minter is one of the best Linebackers to come out of LSU in the past decade. Minter was not only physically very strong as hell and at the point of attack but he was very instinctive and a great football IQ and that is what separates the men from the boys.

So unfortunately Welter has to follow in those footsteps, but his play has been extremely under performing and the stats and video are proof. If you go back and watch the replay of games and look at the running plays that he is not involved in he is taking horrible angles to the ball and even though he did improve in the Auburn game it still wasn't great by any means. It looks like from the replays he just doesn't have the "instinctive" edge to the game that good MLB's have and you can see that in the missed plays or plays on the carrier that he is out of position on.

In the last 4 games our opponents are averaging 4.4yds, 3.7yds, 1.8yds & 4.1yds per carry against TCU, UAB, Kent St & Auburn respectively that is a problem. 1.8yds is awesome but that was against Kent St. when you have TCU gashing you for 4.4yds per carry and the Auburn running backs gashing you for 5.3yds per carry. If people can't see that the front 7 is not playing up to their capabilities than they are either blind, stupid or both. And if they are playing up to their capabilities than we are going to have huge issues with, UGA, Bama, TAMU & yes even Old Piss.

My personal feeling is, if the front 7 starts playing stronger against the run and starts to keep them below a 2yd average we will not see the big pass plays we have been getting torched on.

Whether anyone wants to admit this or not, our linebacker play needs to improve drastically and it all starts from the Mike position.
