Alright, here we go again.

I thought I was seeing things. How inept do you have to be to get the spot wrong by 2 freakin' yards?

The rule states that the ball is marked 5 yds from where the ball was thrown (the 4), because up until then, it was a legal RUN. I'll go get the rule...again...

7.3.2.e. If thrown from in or behind the neutral zone after a ball carrier in possession of the ball has gone beyond the neutral zone [S35 and S9].
PENALTY—Five yards from the spot of the foul; also loss of down if by Team A before team possession changes during a scrimmage down (A.R. 3-4-3-IV and A.R. 7-3-2-II) [S35 and S9].

Up to the point of the Illegal Pass, it was a legal run. The offense gets the benefit (or the detriment) of the legal run.

Go the other way. LOS is B's 40. A7 runs to the B35, and throws an Illegal Forward Pass. For some reason, B declines the penalty. Where is the next spot? You don't go back to the 40, it's the B35.

Everything up to the point of an Illegal Pass is a legal run.

no game is called perfectly. i didn't feel like LSU was getting shafted, and I am a chronic ref critic.

Wow, ok, I stand corrected. This must be different from the NFL version of the rule.
