.. sorry , medtiger .. this is NOT what the letter/article is about, as you imply ... really has nothing to do with that. Simply making a context for readers about who he is. Apparently player has no hard feelings for CLM , but you do .. Re-read.

Saban basically did the same thing on Greg Hercules.
Hercules was a walkon safety. Each spring, he would work his way up the depth chart to 2nd team, but would always find himself 4th team when Fall drills began. Saban didn't want a preferred walkon beating out guys who he recruited.
Hercules ran at pro day after his senior year and was the fastest of the DBs that year.
He doesn't hold a grudge though. The guy is making bank as a Chemical Engineer now.
