What's attendance been like for Grambling lately?
Part of the reason Southern canned their coach was that the team's poor performance was leading to a shite-ton of empty seats.
HBCUs don't have the drawing power they used to even 20 years ago. The last major NFL star to come out of a HBCU that I can remember is Steve McNair and he was there because he couldn't get anyone to let him play QB at the DI-A level, IIRC.
If it appears that the crowds are leaving, the schools may do desperate things in order to convince them that their fortunes will change.
