Through the "black belt" central Alabama, we have a ton of Osage or what we call mock orange. Very hard wood and will eat a chain saw blade for lunch. They do make a fine bow.

This is what I was gonna say. I was fishing in north Texas one time. Gathering some wood for a fire. Came across a stick about two inches around and drew back and hit it with a wooden handled axe.

I still feel it and that was two decades or more ago.

OP, how are you going to work that wood? I know they use that for bows, but what kind of tools do you use?

Didnt know what the wood was when I hit it.
