One of the common arguments for not paying players is that the smaller schools can't compete. This type of donation is way more of a disadvantage to those small schools than paying players would be.

Gareth Bale was just sold to Real Madrid for roughly 130 million USD (the biggest transfer ever), and the world shook. This guy just donated 200 million bucks to Michigan.

Smaller schools not being able to compete is why there are four NCAA football divisions. Smaller schools being unable to compete is a problem that was solved decades ago.
