I am currently in a frenzy of Breaking Bad worship, but I never forget the effect The Wire had on me. It's been about three years for me, and its high time I re-watched it.
I was way late to The Wire party, I watched it this year for the first time. As hyped as it was, as good as people said it was - it met (and sometimes exceeded) those expectations.
How often does a show do that?
Oh - and 1 more plug - this time for Clark Johnson.
Clark played Gus Haynes (the editor with ethics in Season 5 of The Wire) - but he has done much more work as a television director.
As a fan of both shows, Johnson directed the pilot/finale of both The Wire AND The Shield. There is little doubt in my mind those shows have THE best Pilot/Finale episodes of any television series in history - so I'm nominating Clark Johnson as best television director of all time - based on the strength of those 4 episodes.

The Wire is the Darrell's Special of television.
And I am serious.
