Ok, so I'm going to a lake house on Caney Lake soon. I hear they have green trout in there and I'd like to set my hook into one of any size (or really anything that has fins). The folks we're going with just have the house as a non-fishing retreat with jet skis, a party barge, etc (no "fishing" boat).

Things going against me: I couldn't tell you the first thing about freshwater fishing other than Bill Dance falls out of his boat a lot; I don't know the area at all.

Things going for me: I have a want; there's fish up there; I have boucoup saltwater fishing experience (ie: I can fish);I have three tackle boxes that were given to me filled with every bass bait imaginable; I am proficient in google earth; I'm sure I'll be able to commandeer one of the water faring vessels in the early morning hours.

So, what does a guy like me gotta do to put one in the boat?

One of my best friends has a camp up there and they were wearing the bass out a few weeks ago by trolling the lake on a pontoon boat and drinking beer. I couldn't believe it. They caught some damn nice bass doing it.

I will try and get a fishing report from him and bump this for you tomorrow.

I've done well with black/ blue jig under docks and boat houses.

Eta. In the past. Been a while.

Start with frogs/topwater in the morning is shallow water around weeds/grass/pads.

Throw tx rigged soft plastics when the topwater bite slows in the same areas.

Throw deep diving cranks (10+ feet of water) and carolina rigs when the sun gets up

I'm actually going Saturday. If I catch anything, I will let you know what I used. I usually just fish off the FIL's pier but might go out into one of the side channels

eta: It is supposed to be 100 degrees though so may sit inside and drink beer instead

My buddy that fishes there all the time and has a camp there texted me this:

Top water. Flukes. They are chasing shad.

And this:

Had been hitting crank baits but that slowed up. Big silver spoons jigging on tops wrks now.

The bass should be schooling out in the deep water a lot during this heat. Chasing those schools and throwing suspending jerk baits will always catch you several. You just sit out there a while and you will know if they are schooling or not. I have seen some huge schools pushing bait fish to the top.

Also flipping a Zoom Ole Monster around docks works. I usually use Red Shad and it works.

If you plan to go this weekend, plan to throw your lure between jet skis and ski boats because they will be there in abundance
