Great. Please don't be in top 3 rounds.

Is this guy worth that? What's the lowdown on him?

He's a good player. Started for the 49ers at OLB since 07. Had an injury last year that sidelined him. Averages 30-40 tackles a year and 4 sacks a year (career high 8 sacks in '08)

He's better than Will Smith. Will probably split time with Galette and Wilson if I had to guess.

Good pick up if the draft pick isn't high and it was worth it to make sure he didn't hit the market.

i was just thinking yesterday how nice it will be to have all of our draft picks for a change. but nonetheless a late pick shouldn't matter.

Much needed trade considering Smith's injury, but it sure didn't take them long to find someone. Must have been in the works even before he got hurt.

From his short bio in the link seems like he's a great team player that will be a good teacher for the young guys.

Parys Haralson

All right, I'll divulge some more PFF stats on this guy.

Keep in mind it's preseason and I don't know which parts of the game he's been playing.

As of now, out of 89 3-4 OLB's, Haralson is ranked first for overall stats.
Now, that's with a somewhat low number of snaps (51).
His pass rushing production (+2.1) and run defense (+2.2) have both been quite good, while his coverage production is near the average.
(his pass rushing puts him at 13th, while his run defense puts him at 7th).

He didn't play in 2012.
In 2011, he ranked 19th out of 61 OLB's for overall production, with a strength in run defense.
In 2010, he was ranked 17th of 31 OLB's, with a serious strength in pass rush (+11.2, good enough for 9th in the league).

Overall, this guy looks much better than Will Smith and might even take some of the sting out of the Butler injury.

He's good. Above average pass rusher, knows the 3-4 defense really well. He has had injury problems, but has potential. He is just sitting behind some greats.

I'll be pulling for him every week expect when we play.

First, and foremost, I'm sorry Will Smith's season (maybe career) had to end with an injury; I don't wish that on any Saints player...no matter how much I dislike them.

I'm totally convinced that Smith was going to get playing time at OLB and that scared the Hell out of me. The dink passes to his side would have eaten us alive. Now that he's on IR and his replacement is on-board,I think we'll see a little better production from the OLB spot.

As many have pointed out, Haralson isn't likely to make the Pro Bowl, but he's a definite upgrade over what we had.

Here's wishing Smith a speedy recovery and good luck with your future endeavors.
