In accordance with the Theory of Multiple Intelligences, as proposed by Howard Gardner, the answer would be that Tyrann Mathieu possesses exceptional levels of kinesthetic intelligence, as demonstrated by his exceptional ability to control his body with a degree of precision that impacts the game in statistically meaningful ways. Two good supporting examples of this from the 2011 season would be the forced fumble and fumble recovery against Florida, and the exceptionally sure tackle of the significantly larger Bama tight end in open space during the regular season. Both of these plays demonstrated a unique ability to leverage his weight and strength in a precisely focused manner.

I would further posit that he displays a high level of spatial intelligence. There are plenty of talented athletes whose athleticism doesn't translate into the same level of success as they don't don't interpret the quickly shifting elements on the playing field with the same acumen and end up being out of position, etc.

In summary, it is primarily the combination of kinesthetic and spatial intelligences which facilitate a personal playing style that earns such monikers as "game changer" or "playmaker".

Satisfied?
