quote:$5M in savings next year AND the Yankees #12 prospect is a good deal. This opens up the outfield. Maybe in December we'll see what Josh Vitters can do in LF. He's been moved there since Olt arrived at Iowa.
I think for all parties invovled this is a good deal. Would i have liked more, sure, but i also wonder how short sori's list of teams hed go to was, so we might have had our hands tied a bit.

Well Yankees farm system was ranked what #21? So that #12 prospect is like the 16483 best players in the minors

I'm disappointed the Rangers weren't all over Soriano for that price. We desperately need another bat.

Is Black son of Bud Black?

One of these tards actually said we should trade Castro. That should tell you about what you are dealing with here.
Yea the post you quoted was dumb and the idea of trading Castro is even dumber

he will be better than what Yankees have been putting out in RF but he isn't a difference maker either
when he gets hot, he is a difference maker. He's hit more HRs in July than the entire Yankees OF combined.
Soriano has been great the past few years, people just discredit it b/c of the high contract.
This is a good deal for both teams.

Javier Baez is good. Like real good. Hit #24 last night. If Cubs see him as the SS of the future, Castro is expendable. And I agree with that post, Castro's value is at his highest right now.

Rangers might not have been on his list of teams he'd go to.

It isn't like Yankees have been running out good LF's lately....
Wells, Mesa, Alonte have all been play LF and outside of hot first month Wells has been below avg.
Soriano offers more pop but as far as getting on base he will do that at a slightly better clip than what these guys have done (.289 OBP this year)
Soriano has been a good but not great player last few seasons

Guy has a bald half and the fans are out with pitchforks.
Cubs asked him to hit for more power and change his approach this year. Things like that don't happen over night.
As for the defense...well you might be onto something there, but he really had no business being in the majors as soon as he was, in his defense.

More like lowest. Waiting a year to see how it plays out will not hurt his value anymore than it currently is. He'll still be only 24.

I think 12 is a little high if you take the average of all the prospect gurus out there, and just from a quick search it doesn't look like he's really done anything to improve (and may have actually slipped back) that ranking.
Still a good get for the cubs, all things considered.

All these rankings are subjective and you never know when a prospect will break out. He could end up being a middle relief arm or blossoming into a back of rotation starter.

Absolutely. Or he could just be organizational depth, who knows.

It's not about the prospect in a deal like this..The $7M saved is the key. If the prospect pans out, great. If not, no biggie.
Posted on 7/26/13 at 8:54 am to piggidyphish
Hafner is probably gone now as Wells, Soriano, and Jeter/Granderson when they return will all spend time at DH.

yea i expected it to be closer to the tune of 9 mil, or the prospect to be a littler higer.
I overvalue sori, and also don't know his list of teams he would accept a trade to.
My comment was strictly to temper the ranking on that prospect.
I do find it odd that they yankees are paying 5 million next year, i woudl hav ethought they'd pay this years, cubs pick up all, of next years so that the yankees actually had a 1 million credit for the luxury tax calculations.

I have a feeling Yankees thinking about savings from ARod going bye bye.... Getting suspended by team it appears, the doctor who came out and said ARod was fine, turns out he never examined him.
