The WORST shot I ever made, and still got the deer.....
I think I was about 14. I only bowhunted deer then, as now. I think I had some kind of old Bear bow. It must have shot somewhere around a blazing 140 fps. A doe came walking by, at about 35 yards out. It stopped. I drew my bow, and when I shot, I knew that I had shot a little to the left. That's if everything else had remained stationary. But it didn't. The deer started to walk again just as I released, AND, to make it even worse, it jumped forward at the sound of my bow. I knew it was a bad hit, and my first thought was "gut shot".
When I got down, to my surprise, there was a lot of blood. Maybe I didn't shoot SO far back afterall. I thought I'd probably got her somewhere around the diaphragm. Anyway, I met up with my dad, and we trailed her over the ridge and into the next hollow. Then the blood started to peter out. I found a couple more specks, then I saw her laying up ahead.
When we walked up on that deer, there wasn't a hole to be seen. But, after looking more closely, we found where the arrow had just barely got her in the hindquarter. Two more inches to the left and I'd have missed her completely. But, it cut the femoral artery and she bled out about as fast as a lung shot.
Anyway, here's to luck.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)
