There is actually a lot of science to it. A distingushed Alabama alum surveys the field of East teams and tries to discern which will be good and which will not be. The good teams are assigned to LSU and the crappy ones to Bama. Since it is remotelty possible that this situation might change on short notice, the bridge schedule was devised so that a year-by-year assessment might be made. If need be, long forgotten traditional apponents of Alabama such as Mizzou, Kentucky or Vandy will be re-discovered and added to the Bama schedule.
There is immense pressure on the distinguised Tide alum to get this right. Any slip up and Bama might not get its 1,437th SEC championship causing a collapse on the tee shirt industry throughout the entire state of Alabama resuting in trailer park riots.
