I do. It increases the salary for the team who has to match the offer but not for the team who offers it. Add in the fact that they will be luxary tax territory. Not a chance they match.

Let's all ignore the fact that the Pels have a higher team salary on the books than the Pacers do. Larry Bird has said they will match any offer, ignore that too. Also, please ignore the fact that George is 23 yrs old and a budding superstar, because if the Pels really wanted him,EG and JSmith would easily get the sign and trade done.

It's the same amount of money over the course of the contract. All it does is change the cap hit.
Let's say we were to offer player X a 4 year $40 million contract. With the poison pill, you backload it. So year 1 and 2 you pay $5m and in years 3 and 4 you pay $15m but the caphit never reaches the $15m instead it averages out over the course of the contract.
If the team were to match, they wouldn't get the benefit of that rule.
