What would everyone think of that? Agree/Disagree?
Disagree for the most part. You could have one or both teams in the SECCG that have worse overall records than other teams. This hurts the league from a national championship perspective.
In reality the problem of the permanent opponent wasn't exposed until the league went to 2 cross-division games vs. 3. The schedule was somewhat protected when it was 3 because the likelihood that all 3 were down was low.
If the league wants to stay at 8 conference games, the solution is simple. Do away with permanent opponents. If the rivalry is that important, play those games as out-of-conference during the years that game isn't on the conference schedule.
As far as this year's schedule is concerned, I certainly hope it's ridiculed non-stop on the networks. Pryor, Carlin, Hedberg and Murphy combined couldn't come up with a joke as big as this one.

Saban wants 9.
It is written, he hath spoken.
And, I'm good with that. But this conference can forever kiss my arse from here on out.
Common opponents aside, there is no amount of correction that can be made to compensate for the past, present, and future bridge schedules.
They don't even try to hide it.
