WTF. Wife and I are looking to move back home (BR) area from Dallas. She's a nurse, I'm a medical assistant in radiology school. She would take a $12+ pay cut I would take a $5 + pay cut. Houses are just as expensive down there as up here and cost of living about the same. If it wouldn't be for family, we would be out of our fricking minds. Maybe we still are. But seriously, how do people afford shite and why are houses priced like its some great place to live. Totally rethinking this but we need to be around family.

Then they should help you with expenses.

Prices are dictated by what people are willing to pay, fwiw

What kind of a budget do you have? If you are limited to 200k, then yes you should probably be looking towards ascension/livingston, esp if y'all will be sending kids to public schools.

A few areas around town seem overpriced, but if you see comps you'll find that the selling $/sf is consistent. Some asking prices are too high, but make an offer and see if you can get the seller down if there's a spot y'all are interested in

Check out forest ridge in Denham. Houses start around 185000 and top out around 265. Nice small neighborhood
Houseplan like the one you are looking at but only 2400sf for 206000 ia what we just bought back in May

And don't forget you are now going to be paying state income tax which you don't do in Dallas. Now your property tax will be lower assuming you buy a home. But not sure how much that will really off set.

Years ago when I lived in BR, I thought housing was overpriced. Housing in Houston costs about the same if not slightly less than BR and salaries are much higher. I sold out on BR for the cash and it's been the best decision I've ever made.

I believe Briar Oak is in my neighborhood.. A couple of other posters from here live out there too.

Really like the neighborhood. Large yards. I back up to the lake so I can fish and take a small boat out. Lived out there for 3 years now. I commute to Bluebonnet area and the drive is fairly easy. Dont listen to any of the extreme traffic talks. I leave at 6:30 and Im at work at 7am almost every day. Its a 30 min commute on the avg day and a 45 commute on a rainy day. People in that neighborhood go nuts on NYE and Halloween seems to get 2 cities worth of kids flowing through. Complaints would be that most of the homes the secondary bedrooms are small (seems that way with most new construction) the neighborhood is neighborly but not very personable. People are all friendly to each other but its not a place where you will make a lot of friends. Everyone sticks to themselves mostly. Its a good starting family neighborhood. But we will eventually move out to get something a little bigger.

its simple supply and demand- Dallas has more housing on the market than BTR

Several recent announcements in BTR bringing ~1K new jobs is huge for BTR and house prices have solidified. Realtors have told me they are getting list price in certain neighborhoods that were depressed just a year ago
