That did not happen in 2002.
History is owned by the NBA, and teams can use it to make money. The question is who gets to use the tool.
If MJ wants to be able to use, he'll have to ask the NBA. The Heat have Jordan's jersey in the rafters. The Hornets had Pete's jersey up. Anything can be done.
This who has the history stuff is an oversimplified take on the issues.
