What this probably means is a S&T with Portland for their $2.65 million cap room MLE. The Pelicans have to send back at least $1.75 million in salary. Roberts and Miller combined aren't quite enough, only $1.57 million. Have Jackson or Thomas actually signed with the team yet? If they have then they may not be eligible to be traded which would mean you have to start looking at Rivers or Smith to make the full cap room MLE work.

Thomas and Jackson do not seemed signed.

Or Stiemsma. Can use Morrow now if he was signed into room (possible, but not likely) or in September if not (aggregation rules).

Thanks 42. That makes me feel better that the end of the bench is more in play than I thought.

If that's the case (and Steimsma will eventually be signed using an exemption), we may have room to sign him outright (if I am thinking correctly). If you take Steimsma's $2.7 million out of the cap (and complete the signing later using an exemption). Morrow is league minimum (and signing has not yet been announced), Whithey and Jackson are unsigned currently, renounce option on Roberts (as we have not exercised our option) and release Miller, it would create approximately $2.7-$2.8 million in cap room.

If my thinking is right, then we would only lose Miller and Roberts in order to create enough room to sign Oden to a deal close to $3 million. That seems like a nice tradeoff to me.
