LINK . Jimmy has tons of good info and in my opinion he is better then many recruiting services you have to pay for.

Parkway 2014 quarterback Brandon Harris confirmed he will make a trip to Baton Rouge for the camp next week. Harris is scheduled to make his announcement on ESPN on July 18th with many believing it is a two team race between LSU and Auburn.
That's weird if he actually confirmed it to Jimmy.

WHO IS MISSING: It is apparent the names Devante "Speedy" Noil and his teammate Anthony Jones were not on the list. Noil has yet to confirm what his plans are and Jones opted to attend camp at Florida State this weekend. NOLA.com will monitor this fluid situation and report on it as news becomes available.
Well I guess that's that with Jones

Chance of us missing out on noil and jones?

Great read. I still can't wrap my mind around this class.

Wow!!!! James Smith had everything except what the menu was going to be. Very detailed report and will be anxious to read his continuing ones through the next few days!

Jones is gonzo.
LSU is still the team you have to beat for Noil but the competition is still open.

Yes, I have been very impressed with his knowledge & ability to uncover some great info about recruits.
Maybe Jimmy should consider having his own pay site. There, I probably posted what many of you already thought.

I was not in favor of taking Jones...NOT because of his quality but in a year where there were are so many other LA kids at more pressing positions, taking 2 TEs IMO is clearly 1 over the limit. LSU needs WRs, secondary, RBs, etc. In general, my rule of thumb is one signee per position...25 spots and 22 position players. Of course, it depends on need for any 1 year, but IMO 2 TEs should not be taken this year.

I agree with you there. Especially with the way Upchurch is developing, he already weighs more than Jones but gives up a few inches. Upchurch may be a little bit shorter than prototypical TE, but I think he could play there if needs be. By the way, welcome to the board Purpleandgold2, I'm enjoying your contributions.

Great minds think alike! I am not going to project Upchurch as you did but I have mentioned TE IF he continues to grow. His problem at TE is his height...6/1" which is tiny for a TE. Thanks for the welcome...I have been here before and had a great time....last year during recruiting.
BTW, some have mentioned Upchurch for RB. He very well may be the most versatile of the WRs that LSU signs..NOT the best but a guy who can play in the middle of the field, used near the goal line, etc.

One dimensional player IMO. Pure possession receiver...quick slant, cut inside, bubble screen, over middle, etc. He will not run past anyone with his speed and he will not outjump anyone with his height and weight. However, he should be able to muscle past or through someone for good position, catch a quick pass, and grind out some yards after the catch.

I might have missed something, but I believe Harris told 104.5 that he was not camping at LSU.

You know, that is exactly what they said about Justin Blackmon...same rating on Rivals...5.6 and medium 3*. Blackmon wasn't a speed demon either and he did just fine for himself. I see Blackmon when I view Upchurch's video. And as far as offers, Blackmon's consisted of Okie State, Colorado, Missouri, and N Iowa.
His plays at RB showed good running ability. Once again, he and Blackmon IMO know how to do one simple thing. Move the ball down the field. That's good enough for me.
BTW, I could also see this guy as a special team contributor....both on coverage and blocking for LSU return guys. So I guess I completely disagree about him being a "one dimensional guy". I actually see this guy as playing more different areas than just about any recruit LSU signs. I am NOT saying he is close to the best signee...just one of the most versatile.

He's a legit 6'2. Maybe even taller and still growing. Plus he has hops.
Upchurch dunk
He's one of the best high school basketball players in Houston. Also a beast rebounder. His overall athleticism makes him a steal in the class. That's also what the coaches think. Luckily for us the only school he is even considering is LSU.
quote:
"Ever since the sixth grade I've wanted to be an LSU Tiger," he said. "When they offered, it didn't take me long to commit. It's my dream school."
Other major schools were starting to offer but he wouldn't even entertain them. Lots of people in Texas consider him the best overall receiver in the state.
