Peach Trees

So I have a good open direct sun light front yard. I was thinking about putting in a catalpa tree, but the mosquito spraying in town has dessimated my friends worm production in recent years.
I've been reading this research paper, and I think I want to put a couple of peach trees instead.
1) Is it worth it to fool with?
2) Which variety would you recommend? (NWLA)
3) Any other words of wisdom?
I know they are a big deal in Ruston, I just don't know which type is best.

put it in your back yard.
You dont need a bunch of fruit pickers in your front yard.

I had thought about that, but the front yard had a tree removed and has better light.
I'm thinking off to the side, not neccessarily a center piece of the yard.

Start slaying the squirrels now, plant in the winter.
Plant a variety that will give you a larger peach. Mine are too small. I just ate a summer globe that was the size of a softball.

Is this a good N. LA variety?

I planted one last year- LaFeliciana. Can't offer any more than that. I'm not too knowledgeable on peaches and still awaiting my first ones from the yard.

These are for N. LA Gala, harvester, lagold, wildrose, majestic, redglobe, loring, lapremier, ruston red, dixieland, ouachita gold, and lajewel.

Thanks, I got most of that from the paper, any suggestions on one variety over another?

Good advice. Every year mine starts looking good, then I come home from work one day and every peach on the tree has disappeared.

Summer Globe probably would produce in N. LA. I bought it in a mixed bag - harvesters, red globe and one Summer Globe.

Check out Dan Gill's website. He is a LSU ag. ag. professor. He knows everything about everything.

Not sure if you like them, but my favorite tree is the Persimmon. Fuyu variety.
I don't have much knowledge on peaches though.
