This is an FX show and everything else they have done has been right out of the gate running.

That's just a notion completely foreign to me, I can't even begin to understand it actually.
I'm more or less likely to begin watching a new show based on what network it's on, but if a show's previews/premise look interesting to me, once I decide to give it a chance, it stands on its own. Either I continue to watch it, or not, based on its own merits. I would never compared one show's pilot to another simply because it was broadcast on that network.
I compare crime dramas to crime dramas, syfy to syfy, cop shows to cop shows, etc......
But comparing cross-genre shows simply because they got picked up by the same network doesn't seem to make sense to me.
