The problem with this mentality is that it ignores the fact that other teams can credibly make the same argument. LSU had a lot of talent, but so did other teams like Florida, Alabama, USC....
It's easy to say "if only" the offense, play calling or whatever was better we would have won. The is no way to prove it either way and while LSU had some very talented teams, so did several others. It's also easy to forget games that went LSU's way because of a bad call or bad offense by the other team.
We only scored 3 points vs Auburn in 06, its easy to say we could have won that game and even if we did, would we have beat Florida in the SEC CG? 2011 was a loaded team with a below avg offense that was outright pitiful in the BCS CG. Florida had the #6 offense in 2009. The avg 35.9 ppg, but only scored 13 in the SEC CG and lost by 19. Sure getting shutout and held to 5 FD's is embarrassing, but end result is the same as the 2009 SEC CG, a 3 TD loss to a great defense and great coaching staff that is tough to beat anytime, but more so in a rematch situation.
LSU could have won more titles, but so could Florida, USC, OU, Texas and frankly even Alabama could credibly argue they should have won the last 5.

2.
Should have won the past two years
I don't lay the blame quite as much last year as I do the year before.
1/9/12 is inexcusable. Especially if the rumors are true and they ran essentially the same gameplan.

Really? 2012?
I mean, we were a play or two away from beating Bama. We were also a play or two away from losing to Ole Miss. These things work both ways. The fact is that our offense was inconsistent last year and that cost us three games. Period.

I say he left two on the table
2011 and 2012
2011 and 2012

Yes.
OL inhuries killed us, but that's also Miles' strength supposingly.
Only was able to keep the team motivated by focusing on Bama, and when we lose, the wheels fall off.
2012 was supposed to be our NC year based off talent....and we got pretty much all of the players back from our dominant run in 2011.
Bad team management is where you lay losses on a coach.
Not execution.

And he had that problem fixed by mid season with Turner and Alexander. He's not a miracle worker.

Wheels fall off? We only lost one game after Bama and that was the bowl game nobody really cared to play in.

I disagree. We had a first year QB with zero SEC experience. He played like one.

Except Claiborne. And Mathieu. And Brockers. And Randle.

So performance according to you is binary: we win, or lose.
There were fricktons of apathy after that game, DL especially.

I think you're reaching. And your argument assumes we didn't struggle against lesser teams before the Bama game, but we actually did.
For example, we beat a three-win Auburn team by 2 pts. Texas A&M beat them by 42 pts. We also struggled with FCS Towson. Finally, our offense only managed 200 yards against Florida (whose defense gave up an average of about 85 yards more than that per game - a statistic that is deflated by the LSU game!).
We were just an up and down team last year. Pure and simple. Our offense was inconsistent because Mett was inconsistent, especially on the road.
We were not championship caliber, in my opinion. Could we have beaten Bama, won the SEC title, and gone on to beat ND? Sure. Could we have also lost to Auburn, Ole Miss, and Arkansas? Yep.

The week after holding LSU to 200 yards (and 42 on the ground), Florida gave up close to 400 to Vanderbilt (363).
Just gives you some perspective. We struggled. We were not championship material last year.

Excellent post HTown.
Hell, Oregon was a couple of plays away from winning like 4 or 5 under Kelly.
Oklahoma could have won like 8.
It's a fricking stupid argument to only look at one team's close calls. And that's of course also overlooking the close games teams WON that could have gone the other way too.
The idiots who only focus on a play or two or even a game of ours saying MILES IS THE ONLY REASON WE HAVENT WON 6 TITLES IN 8 YEARS!!!! are so fricking stupid and without perspective is downright hilarious.

I think it's very impressive that Miles has had LSU """""IN"""""" contention for a NC in at least 5 of his 8 years in Baton Rouge.
Saban had us in contention for 1. Plus he only had one season at LSU with under 3 losses.
Fornicate him...

Look at the LSU-A&M game last year, from an A&M fan view, they blew that game. They lost by 5. They returned a kick 76 yds that resulted in a missed FG. Along with another FG and an int that bounced off the Rec hands. LSU fans of course see it differently.

An LA paper did a break down on about 5 or 6 plays that could have given USC 5-6 NC's under Carroll. They won the AP in 2003, but lost in triple OT to Cal, win that and they are undisputed champs. Convert on 4-2 vs Texas and they win 3 straight. They also had a penalty that gave Texas a first down on the final drive. In 2006 they lost 13-9 to UCLA,, 1 more play there and its 4. 2007 stop Stanford on that last play and its 5. 2008 they lost 27-21 vs Oregon State, 1 more drive...
We could do that for Florida State in the 90's. Miami is literally 2 plays (and INT in the EZ vs PSU in 86 and a 2 pt conversation vs ND in 88) from 4 btw 86-89.
The fact that Bama and Saban have now won 3 of 4 warps peoples view, but that has only happened twice for a reason.

I hope one day, the most successful head coach in LSU history gets respect.
Nick Saban is the consensus best coach in CFB AND HE HAS LOST A GAME AT HOME , every year but once. Let that sink in.
The greatest coach of this generation gets beat AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR.

You're stupid. There no way you're an actual LSU fan. I've never seen you post anything positive about LSU. Never.
