Collins was a huge loss. Looks less like it right now, but that's only because we should be bringing in one of the best DB classes ever.
No he wasn't, after he made his decision, LSU went out and signed Corey Thompson. You also miss the point with the 2nd part of your statement. While this DB class could be epic with the # of elite recruits, over the last decade, LSU has alway gotten our fair share of DB talent. The difference between Collins and whoever we have starting in that spot (Martin, Thompson) is marginal at best.

Let me break this down for you,
Camrob is offered by both LSU and Bama. So are lots of recruits from this state. For various reasons, either one or both face or existing dispositions toward them which make it more or less likely the offer will be accepted. Some seem to think Ala. has no chance with some of La.'s top recruits.
Camrob has said, credibly, he's wide open to either.
Likewise he is at a position of need where he might see time at either place early ( and he's very good)
AND unlike some other of our top recruits, it appears Saban has made CamRob a top priority, just as Les has.
In short, it is a heads up fight between equally motivated programs for a recruit who is open minded, not biased toward either.
It is the biggest test for Miles' as a recruiter in some time, possibly to include LC ( where girlfriends, AD dept jobs were involved).
