Davis (20)- 3 years
Evans (23)- 4 years
Holiday (23)- 4 years
Gordon (24)- 3 years
Anderson (25)- 3 years
So you have a great, young core in place for 3-4 years. I don't see that as rushing into mediocrity. You figure you keep those pieces in tact and develop guys around them like Rivers, Pierre Jackson, Withey, Miller, not to mention the other guys you will draft in the next few years. Those guys become the role players important to Championship caliber teams.

I'll be honest. Even with that lineup, they could still tank for Wiggins

You're trying a little too hard there.

Bob Licht is mad, bros:
I guess he fails to realize that those two starters we traded will never get you anywhere in the playoffs. I'll take quality over quantity anyday.

BOB LICHT @hortonhomers So far, #Pelicans' "Dealer" Dell has traded 2 starters + 2 1st rounders 4 Holiday/Evans. More Atheltic. Better defensively. But, better?

no, we got two guys who can both score and play better defense than the people we let go...but we are worse.
fricking idiot.

They'll be solid and competitive for sure.
But definitely not an upper tier team.
Is there enough space to continue to add the pieces to make them upper tier?
That's what I worry about.

i think 7-8 seed in the playoffs this season is realistic. should see improvement in that seeding over the next 3 years. hopefully.

if we traded 2 starters and got 2 starters back, theoretically we only gave up 2 1st for Jrue and Tyreke +Withey

My least favorite argument this whole off-season is where people say we have rushed this rebuild. That simply isn't true.
If we waited for next year's lottery, we risk ruining the development of Anthony Davis and giving him a bad taste in his mouth concerning New Orleans.
We would have had to find other ways to reach the salary cap floor which could mean overpaying for lesser/older talent than what we have acquired.
Perhaps the worst part is just the uncertainty that drafted players bring. Noel may not be anything. Picking anywhere outside of the top-3 next year might get a good player, but not a superstar. Overall, there's too much uncertainty with the draft.
Getting good young players on their second contract expedites the process in a positive way. Not only are they proven, but they still possess considerable upside. Now you don't have to worry with the unknown variables of the lottery and drafted players. It puts the team in the driver's seat to improve by making adjustments internally rather than continuously hoping for outside help via free agents or rookie draft picks.
Lastly, a core of Davis, Holiday, Evans, Gordon, and Anderson is very good right now. In 2-3 years, barring serious injuries, this core can be great. Certainly in the conversation with teams with great cores already.
I also can't stand Dell Demps haters who complain that he can't keep players on this roster for more than a season, yet demand that this team rebuilds. God have mercy on their souls. Rant over.

to all the fricking haters...I think they mad because if our teams stays healthy and develops chemistry, we have a legitimate shot to make the Playoffs IMHO!!! Geuax Pels!!!

Not upper tier this year. But realistically you only need 8 good players, 9 players at the most. You have 5 good ones already and few others guys who can develop and be decent players.
