The Kings will not match the four-year, $44 million offer sheet that Tyreke Evans has agreed to sign with the New Orleans Pelicans. According to sources close to the situation, the new Kings management group instead is hoping to close Thursday on a sign-and-trade agreement involving Pelicans point guard Greivis Vasquez and backup center Robin Lopez.
No deals can be finalized until July 10.
Because Evans, the 2009-10 Rookie of the Year, is a restricted free agent, the Kings have the right to match any offer he receives in the open market. However, team officials reportedly believe the offer is excessive and would damage the team's long-term salary cap flexibility. They pulled their four-year, $52 million offer to free agent Andre Iguodala Tuesday when the Denver Nuggets swingman refused to make a firm commitment.

Response from Kings Fans

r u kidding me??? wtf are we doing??im pissed...damn
quote:
I am so mad, what the hell???!? What are they thinking......................... What kind of a vision is "give up a potential all star for a worse PG and average, at best, big men"! Makes no sense.
Iggy then Reke.....
quote:
This is a damn good trade....We need a facilitator on offense and Greivis Vasquez is a LEGIT PG....plus some quality depth up front with Robin Lopez. Great move IMO considering we woulda just lost Reke outright.
quote:
But we could have matched..
quote:
But why would we? Reke ain't worth that.
quote:
Wow. A fast track to mediocrity.
Some fans on here were anti-Reke due to an over-reliance on certain advance metrics. Some due to antiquated views on PG'. Pretty sure you just don't understand basketball.

I am literally rolling on the floor laughing at that one quote! "Greivis Vasquez is a LEGIT point guard"

A legit backup. That is all I will say. I've been explaining reasons why he isn't a good Point Guard all season. He's a good spot up shooter and a decent passer. I don't hate HIM. I hate him playing the point

This is definitely going to be an interesting move. Now we only have the MLE to play around with unless another trade happens, correct?

With the sign and trade agreed to, Demps can now try to use nonguaranteed contracts and about $4.5m in cap space in other deals. - 42
quote:
Deal can be done using trade rules allowing the Pelicans to go over the Cap. So he can use the space, do the trade, and use Room MLE. - 42

The Roster can be filled out with two more middle salary players and minimum contracts like Mason, etc. - 42

Thanks.
Hopefully Demps has a plan for the rest of the roster and it works out. Ryno is the best trade chip we have but I just don't want to see him leave.
