Go for the direct thread. You can retitle it "Why Superheroes?" Mods don't like call outs.

I think it's a discussion to have, not necessarily...

"I declare this the reason... so be it. From my lips, it is truth."

And I've said this before. So let'[s set it up:

Two facts (that can be debated, sure)

1. Humans Need Myth/Heroes - Heroes are an important part of culture and ideals. No matter their fictional background or stature, we need those images and perceptions to cling to. The myth os something grander, They give us a moral and idealistic ground to aim for. Myths and heromaking are critical to the cultural unconscious. Myths are circular in that they are part of....

2. The Cultural Consciousness exists insofar that we, as a culture, will both tell ourselves what we need and like, and create what we need and like at the same time. This is a shifting tapestry of ideals, stories, problems, symbols and all of the other things that form our cultural identity, is critical to our growth and our perceived experience on the world.

So myths, the symbolic narrative of who we are and why we are, directly feeds into the cultural conscious which is the representation of our identity presently.

One can posit that those who are successful in creating narratives (artistic or otherwise) that tap into these two spheres, especially today, can just plain make money. Right?

i remember as a kid, maybe 6 or 7, when i first came to grips with the reality that there were no actual superheroes anywhere in the world. i grew up surrounded by toys, shows and comics about superheroes so the stories were pervasive in my everyday life. i guess i hadn't really thought about how they related to reality before but it was a pretty disappointing realization.
