Can anyone shed some light on this? I remember hearing when I was in college about the black receivers not liking Josh Booty at QB and his brother, white receiver Abram Booty, not really "trying" when Rohan was in.

I just am curious. For the record I am white and Rohan is still my favorite QB in the 21st century LSU history. I say that because I really liked Hodson when I was a kid in the 80s and he got be interested in LSU. But Rohan had a lot of heart, helped turn the program around, and was there when I was there.

I am just curious about the Booty brothers and if anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it.

Is this the LSU version of "some of my best friends are black"?

I don't think it was so much a race issue, but many guys just preferred rohan as a teammate to Josh.

I had a friend on the team and I remember in 98 he telling me how racism was the biggest internal issue the team faced.

Not sure if it was race driven but Rohan was the better QB and had the support of the team more than Booty.

Booty was possibly the greatest high school QB ever. He was also a first round pick in baseball and got a World Series ring. Not really surprising that he was cocky.

Booty was not very likeable, he was a prick and not a team player. However, there was entirely too much pressure put on him the minute he stepped on campus. Davey was much more likeable. Don't think it had anything to do with race, Booty was just a prick who didn't play well until he realized his starting job was in jeopardy.

wasn't this mostly an issue on BR sports radio? I can remember Jimmy Ott dropping a few tidbits on this topic during the whole Jefferson/Lee days.

LSU didn't have any wide receivers during your timeframe, don't you know Craig Nall was running routes

My fraternity brother was a walk on kicker. He used to tell me how Booty never worked out with the team. He would always be with his little group of coaches and that was it.

Honestly I can't think of any player that had more pressure on them from day 1 as josh did.
Local and national media, no to mention our fan base labeled him as the savior of LSU football.... I remember hearing fowler say that very thing on college game day that year.

I wish those two wouldve been 3 yes apart.
Both had their ups and downs at LSU.... Both were very capable qbs.
I remember Davey getting booed off field vs auburn and booty getting same vs uab.

Harsh bunch we can be on qbs.

There were always rumors that the Booty family were causing problems in the stands with other players families. I don't know if that is true and I am not claiming it is true.

Josh Booty was the most over rated player, in any sport, to ever wear purple and gold. For those that remember, he completed his first college pass to his brother Abram, which was planned. I'm sure that rubbed a lot of his teammates wrong.

I don't know about the team but the crowd in TS was definitely divided. Davey was the better player IMO.
