Booty Brothers/Rohan Davey/Racism Issues around 1999-2000

Can anyone shed some light on this? I remember hearing when I was in college about the black receivers not liking Josh Booty at QB and his brother, white receiver Abram Booty, not really "trying" when Rohan was in.
I just am curious. For the record I am white and Rohan is still my favorite QB in the 21st century LSU history. I say that because I really liked Hodson when I was a kid in the 80s and he got be interested in LSU. But Rohan had a lot of heart, helped turn the program around, and was there when I was there.
I am just curious about the Booty brothers and if anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it.

Is this the LSU version of "some of my best friends are black"?

I don't think it was so much a race issue, but many guys just preferred rohan as a teammate to Josh.

"I met Wayne Brady once!"

I had a friend on the team and I remember in 98 he telling me how racism was the biggest internal issue the team faced.

The bootys were cocky

Not sure if it was race driven but Rohan was the better QB and had the support of the team more than Booty.

Teammates didn't like that Josh was cocky and had a license plate on his car that referred to him being a 1st round pick in baseball....and also didn't like that they could see Abram's nipples through his modeling shirt.

No racism. Booty was the prodigy coming home after years in baseball. Rohan could have gone 10-2 and everyone would have blasted Dinardo for not playing Booty. He would have gone 12-0.

Booty was possibly the greatest high school QB ever. He was also a first round pick in baseball and got a World Series ring. Not really surprising that he was cocky.

Starting Booty wasn't the issue. Not giving him the hook after poor performance was. Refusal to change, same with Tepper on defense in those years.

The complaint I always heard was that Josh was a a "me first" guys first, last and always.
Just didn't command respect, and was not likeable.
Race may have been just a part of the chemistry for some.

So Dinardo has his best years with Herb Tyler. Recruits Rohan from Miami and people bring race to the decision?? It's called a poor call by the coach and stubborn.

Booty was not very likeable, he was a prick and not a team player. However, there was entirely too much pressure put on him the minute he stepped on campus. Davey was much more likeable. Don't think it had anything to do with race, Booty was just a prick who didn't play well until he realized his starting job was in jeopardy.

This. Dinardo couldn't get the division out of the locker room. Rohan wasn't much of an effort guy in practice, which turned some teammates off. Josh was cocky, which did the same.
But damn, Ro should could turn it on for game time.

I don't recall this being the issue. I thought most fans wanted Ro over Josh.

Saban was quoted in 2000 as saying Booty practiced so much better than Davey and that's why he got the starts.
But Ro always played better in the games. Guess he had an extra gear with adrenaline.
I'll never forget the 2000 Peach Bowl when we were dead to rights against Ga Tech. Down 14-3 at half IIRC and came back to win 28-14. Ro came in at half and played lights out, Josh Reed stepped up, defense was great, and Winey took the cast off his broken hand and was vital. Of course I drink too much and maybe some of that info is a little hazy. :)

quote:wasn't this mostly an issue on BR sports radio? I can remember Jimmy Ott dropping a few tidbits on this topic during the whole Jefferson/Lee days.
