Interesting to see that age old culprit come out again: defensive midfield positioning. It's been an increasingly problemsom sutuation. I had wondered why Gerrard didn't track Shelvey.

Alberto can play the AM.
Would rather move Henderson there and bring Sterling on the right. Southampton has a physical midfield. Alberto or Aspas will get bossed out of the match. Lucas, Gerrard and Henderson will control the midfield and create enough chances to get a winner. With Moses and Sterling on the wings we should have counter attack opportunities.
Wouldn't mind seeing a 4-4-2 with Sakho in the midfield if we get the go ahead.

Yeah I know we bought him for his versatility. I just think he's more equipped to be successful holding the ball.

I'm not very familiar with their midfield. I'd agree if that's the case. Its hard to drop Hendo right now regardless.

I heard his distribution was poor in France, ruling him out of being a MF option here. Was that the case?

i'm generally pretty skeptical about CBs, even ones that are good passers, being good options at DM. seems like it'd be damn risky to play him there in a league match if he's never done it before.

His distribution was fairly good against Swansea. I was pretty impressed in that regard. Regardless, in a 4-4-2 he wouldn't need to distribute much. His role would be winning the ball.

I'll also say, I don't want to give up on Aspas. I don't think he was put in the best position Monday, coming in late when we were already playing in our turtle shell. I think we're just still trying to figure out how to get a lot of guys on the field at the same time while getting the best end product.

Aspas will be fine. He just needs to adjust to the physicality of the league.

He reminds me of a young David Villa at times.

@LFCUSA playing with 4 center backs could prove to be an interesting strategy!!!

What an awful performance. We are completely inept going forward.

We are lucky they didn't drop 3 on us. Let's not even talk about Enrique. How the hell is he still playing

On the bright side, I wouldn't have been disappointed if you told me at the beginning of the year we'd have 10 points after 5 games without our best player. Suarez being back should help, and hopefully the new guys can find their place while Coutinho's out.

There is that. Still, you don't lose at home to fricking Southampton. These are the matches Liverpool cannot afford to lose, despite table position.

Someone needs to punch Enrique in the fricking face. Was he high? He looked like he smoked a boat load of pot and was just chillin.
Complete a pass? Sure, no worries mon.
