Alabama shouldn't play sweet home Alabama anymore. That's your logic
No, that actually makes more sense since its about Alabama. Calling BR isn't about BR, but a girl.
Something similar might be Tulane playing New Orleans Lady.

Sweet home Alabama is about the state not the school. They say Alabama in it alot so that's why they play it. Callin Baton Rouge says Louisiana and BR multiple times. There. I solved your 2+2 math problem.

You're dishonest.
The song Sweet Home Alabama is about Alabama, and the University of Alabama represents the state of Alabama.
The song Calling Baton Rouge is about a woman. It in no way shape or form represents Baton Rouge other than it mentions calling Baton Rouge because of the woman, not because of some affection to Baton Rouge. Nothing in the song embraces romantic notions of the city or state, just the woman and what she means to him.
DIFFERENT.... COMPLETELY DIFFERENT....
This desperation for an identity is embarrassing because its so blatantly obvious.

The song is played anywhere and everywhere around LSU in tailgating and before every home game. LSU and even Les Miles has embraced it. The song was not written for LSU but most fans love it and have also embraced it. I don't see what is wrong with enjoying a song that mentions BR and LA many times. Sweet home Alabama was not written for Bama either. But their fans just enjoy the song.

I'm done with this though. We will just go back and forth all day and I have better things to do as I'm sure you do as well.

You've never been to a game in Knoxville. They play that fricking song every 5 minutes all day fricking long.
THIS, that song is a fricking virus.
Lets all wear orange, be mean to opposing fans, play Rocky Top 11 times an hour, and lose by 20, hoorah!

Dennis Linde also wrote "Hunk a Hunk of Burning Love" and "John Deere Green". Dennis died a few years ago.
Really do not know of any song written by Garth Brooks.

Okay, I seriously don't care for either as both are run into the ground ad nauseum, buried, resurrected, and run in the ground some more for good measure. It's like people have an unquenchable desire for top 40 and classic rock all day every day. What song is it you want to hear? FREEBIRD.
whatever. I just think it's kind of silly, especially since its a state university, not a BR university.

Comparing the traditions of the high school football team UT and college powerhouse LSU is not a fair comparison.

This really does sum it up.
Sure, you could replace Baton Rouge, Louisiana with any other city in the lower 48, and it would basically still fit in this song.
The song gets played over the PA once before the game, and has become part of the tradition since they started doing it several years ago.
The majority of fans obviously enjoy it. I'd rather hear that song than something generic like Sandstorm.
Ironically, I have a feeling that the same people complaining about "Callin' Baton Rouge" also want to do away with TGBFTL and add more generic piped in pump up songs.

Actually, quite the opposite. I already have iTunes, XM, Pandora, iHeart radio, my iPod, and many CDs. I don't need any of the nonsense to pump me up. The TGBFTL is enough to get me stirred. Take the rest of that nonsense and do what you will with it. Long before Crazy Train, Calling Baton Rouge, or any other song was played over the loud speaker or videos being played on the jumbo tron, we were making that stadium rock and there was no need for it.
All we needed was four notes, and we were on our feet making it rock.

I think Enter Sandman would be cool for night games.

I got goosebumps when they played the song at Jerry world pregame to the Oregon game. As an LSU fan, how can you not get that based on the crowd reaction alone?

Because I bought Blizzard of Ozz when it came out in 1980, and wore it out then and STILL have to have it run in the ground, and because I had a good friend who used Garth Brooks as a kind of water boarding torture.
But mostly because its not about the crowd, but about LSU.

I personally don't care for Garth or country.
