He's definitely not useless. He can play in the CL qualifying rip ounces, which is always a tricky tie. While having him out six games is annoying, that could be beneficial on the back end of the season, as he could feature more, especially if we aim to actually compete for trophies.
We also have to think of this long term. He probably has 4 or 5 years left at the top level. If he's playing with us and playing well, what do six games matter. I mean, way back when, in 98 or so, Vieira spit on a dude and was suspended for six games, but no one remembers that, because he contributed so much more. We should look at total contribution, not immediate.

Why would I start the season relying on the end? A good manager wants to start on top and stay there, not work his way up

He'd miss the Tottenham match. That could be a big deal.
