Just got home - a few thoughts...

- I thought the batters adjusted well towards the middle to end of the game. We banged out 10 hits - just did not get the hit with RISP.
- I can't stand this type of baseball. The UCLA game was atrocious. A pitcher throwing the ball that high over the middle of the plate should be punished.
- If this is Bregman's SO year, we win it all. He was too juiced to be in Omaha, too juiced to make big plays. Pressed too much. No longer an Omaha rookie, look out next year.
- Was a great run. I think we peaked early.
- Skip was a master. It really shows. I remember all those years he'd do some freaky stuff early to mid-season that cost us games, but come Omaha time those things allowed us to capitalize on championship winning moments. May not be another like him for a long time.
I like this team for next year. Mainieri will win another one.

If I have a gripe for today's game, it would be not being more aggressive on the base paths. The freshman had a high leg and slow delivery.

As I have pointed out in another thread, this exemplifies Bertman's greatness even more for me....so hard to take it all.

yep we needed a year to get use to the atmosphere. we'll do better next year but we just won't have the pitching we did this time around. maybe the bats will make up for it.

I agree with your entire post

The new bats/ball park combo is just as bad as what the bats in the 90s did but this time in the pitchers favor. You pretty much take away the element of the long ball and everything is an advantage to the pitcher. Huge foul territory, deep in the alleys/center, and positioned to where the wind blows in. I mean come on NCAA, yall went a little too far. I just imagine the guy who spearheaded this moment having flashbacks of when he was a pitcher getting rocked and vowing to himself to one day change the dynamic of college baseball from offensive to pitching oriented.

Watching college baseball these last 2 years has been the most annoying sporting experience of my life.
The game is so stagnant right now. Thankfully we get to play with the new ball next year, so we will see how things improve.
I mean look at Ibarra. I feel so bad for the kid. He jacked some serious long balls this year that just died.

Hmm... the way Kyle Peterson was talking about it in the SEC tournament made it sound like a done deal.

I don't think its been discussed seriously by the NCAA yet.

You hit the nail on the head with this. Skip was a goddam genius and master of the game. He recruited pitchers who functioned as middle relievers during the season but who all had the ability to start when called upon when Omaha came around. His teams were built for Omaha top to bottom and he played to win in Omaha. That's why many of his teams didn't win SEC titles - he didn't care about that. He only played for the big prize. CPM can't hold Skip's jock.

it is aggravating how they get away with it game after game, and we leave one up in the zone the guy takes it out of the park. maddening.

Yeah thanks for the correction. It looks like there is a strong push by many prominent college baseball coaches to get the ball implemented.

I think it will eventually happen, sooner rather than later.

Certainly not a done deal. It was KP's repeated suggestion as to what could improve the now stagnant college game and drastic reduction in offensive numbers nationwide. He merely said it so many different times you thought it was a done deal. I don't blame you.

Yeah - I posted my 'Baseball Gods' post a little bit after that.
I don't recall us losing many pitches high and in the middle at all - but the one we did just got air-mailed.

After the loss in last years super reg. I kind of expected to be home early. We lacked the hitting all year long.We replace Hanover and Nola with Bregs and Ibarra. Our overall hitting seemed to get a lot better but the same problem as last year came into play again. Not trying to call any one or 2 players out but the meat of our lineup just almost went hitless. As for the small ball this game has turned in to it is hurting the game.I can not hardly stay awake and watch some of these teams.

College baseball runs the risk of ruining pitchers if that doesn't change.
Kids will be going to minor league ball with great college ERA's and then get drilled because they didn't have to really pitch in college.

I almost hope UCLA wins it all with a post season batting average of like .207. You've got to believe if something like that happens they AT LEAST have to talk about it. Right?

Can't compare skip and pm. Different era and format. How many of skip's teams went on the road to win a regional? Off the top of my head can only think of 89 at a&m. Back then u just had to be a top 16 seed to host a six team regional, not top 8. We had a great team in 01 and lost to Tulane in the supers.
