Always heard great things about Yamaha as far as reliability. So imagine my confusion when I kept hearing of my agency having to get motors fixed on their boats. Finally figured out the issue one day when I say exactly what was going on. Fella driving the boat in reverse while dragging for a body and only one blade from the prop was hitting the water at a time and not a drop coming out the pisser

This really doesn't have anything to do with reliability, but I remember a tourney on toledo a while back. Probably late 90's. Wind so bad they let us trailer. About ten boats came to the landing with no cowl. I was told they blew off in rough water and sank to the bottom. Was told Yamaha replaced them, then changed the latch design.

my theory is exactly something like this, most people don't know how to take care of and operate outboards correctly so issues are due to operator error most of the time...i say most without having any kind of statistical evidence to back this up...this is solely based on the fact that there are a lot of dumbasses on the water
