That's awesome....like a propane tank swap for my grill. How hard is it to swap?

Didn't think of it that way. How does Tesla intend to set up the electric car charging and swap station infrastructure? Existing fueling stations? Super centers?

Wonder if they can make this work for other cars too....like the Volt or the Leaf. Interchangeable batteries in the future maybe? I bet they could partner with GM or Toyota and gain that interchangeability and economies of scale in the future.

I wonder how much labor is involved in a swap.

According to Musk at a shareholders meeting a few weeks ago, he claims that they were going to announce a way to "recharge" the Model S's power supply faster than the average gas station fill up. I guess we'll see at the demo.

If he can solve the 1) Charge time and 2) network of charging stations nationally, then Tesla is primed to be the luxury electric automaker of the future. In 3-4 years, they plan on releasing a smaller version of the Model S that will cost in the 30-40k range which opens up the market tremendously. The Model X is a SUV releasing in the next year or so with Falcon doors and all of the top of the line features.

I am starting to become a believer and Thursday could do a lot to shake up the industry and make electric viable.
