How much longer is Rafa going to be able to play if he takes roughly 9 months off and can still barely make it through the clay court season?

I'm legitimately concerned about his career

I never thought he'd regain his form after last year. The start of this year had renewed my hope, but I believe it was false hope. I see 1-2 more FOs and that's it.

I hope I'm wrong .

Yes, I think he is probably too. Hell, he might have been thinking he wasn't losing that many points (didn't have much to defend), and he preferred not to go through a 5th set affair, and maybe save some of himself for the hard court season. Playing on hard courts is safer than trying not to slip on new grass.

Rafa's strategy was to get through the slick grass with defense, against a weaker opponent. He does this at Wimbledon first week. Usually it works. Last year and this year these guys were playing out of their minds. But something happened during the match, because Rafa was clearly not even trying to win the points like he usually does.

Wimbledon courts look gorgeous, but are dangerous early in the tournament. Ask Azarenka who almost blew her ACL today
