1. Coaching - Reasons stated above. (Rhymes at bat the worst of them all)
2. Hitters - terrible approach at the plate and no adjustments.
3. Bregman (Errors happen but there is no excuse for not getting in front of the ball in that situation.

You ever play short or second? Bregman was screened by the runner until the last portion of a second. He could tell direction off the bat, but without constant eye contact on the ball it gets really tough to know how the bounce is going (long, short, top spin, bottom spin, skipping, bouncing, one bounce liner, etc.) the ball will do 100 things off the bat.

That momentary screen caused him to only be able to throw leather at the ball. It was a way tougher play to make than what it looked like. Was it playable? Yes but to say there is no excuse is exhibiting a basic misunderstanding of the position.

And before you say he should have moved toward the ball/plate/ changed angle of attack - remember the runner was right there and if there was contact between the two it would have been interference on the SS.
