Kornheiser: Nadal has removed Federer from the discussion of G.O.A.T

Wilbon:"Steffi Graf, as great as she was, the stabbing of Monica Seles changed the dialogue -- changed history, had a big impact. So, to me, if Serena pulls even with Evert and Navratilova, she is the greatest of all time."
Kornheiser: "I'm gonna say this about Nadal. Nadal could be the greatest of all time if in the next three years he beats Djokovic on every surface. But what he established is that Roger Federer is not the greatest of all time. Roger Federer can't touch him. And he's won wimbledon twice. He's won majors on hard courts. He's removed Roger Federer from that discussion as far as I'm concerned."

I love Fed but I believe that Nadal is better. It kills me to say that.

Hard to say you're the best ever when you're not the best of your generation.

Was Nadal around when Federer was in his prime? Honest question.

This. But, let's let him get to 16 or 17 before we crown his arse GOAT.

Federer all time still > Rafi IMO.
Presently, Rafi and Djokivic are clearly better than Federer.

Who's won more majors?
1. Ask Tony
2. FYI: My five year old nephew can pull up wikipedia pages on the two guys and compare the number of majors.

I'd rather you do it instead.

Its a tough tough statement because Fed had NO competition till Nadal came along. Nadal probably hit his prime at the same time Fed was starting his decline,2008. Fed was still ~26/27.

Fed's prime was arguably in the '03-'07 range and Nadal was beating him then, at least in four RG's in a row. You can write off the clay stuff, but the '08 Wimby and '09 Aussie losses are harmful to Fed's legacy IMO.

The next great tennis player is the GOAT...and then after him, the next guy is GOAT...
...whoever is racking up majors at the time you are alive is the GOAT...
...whoever is there to talk about on sports shows is the GOAT.
GOAT has become synonymous in our sports culture with..."the present."

Rafa won his first French Open when Federer had 4 major titles to his name.

Fed's prime is generally recognized as 2004-2007
Nadal was 17-20.
Nadal won his first GS in 2005. He beat Federer in the semifinals on his 19th birthday.
The first time Rafa and Federer met was at the 2004 Miami Masters. Rafa was 17 and gave Fed -- who was number 1 in the world -- an arse whoopin...on hard courts.

I don't know, man. I really think Fed and Nadal are 1 and 2 best ever in whatever order, with Laver also in the discussion. And Djokovic will be borderline top ten. This is a golden age, Agassi said as much. I loved Agassi, Johnny Mac, Edberg, Wilander and even now appreciate Lendl and Connors, but those guys were a cut below.

Naw, I don't think so.

The problem is that was his "prime" because thats when he was winning but he should have been at his very peak when Rafa started taking non clay court majors from him.
Also you have to factor in that Rafa was just a terrible terrible matchup for Rafa. I'm not sure if this should factor into GOAT discussion but its something to consider.
